Today’s conversation is about Spiritual Consumerism
On the spiritual path, if we are being honest with ourselves, it is important to observe marketing schemes used to make ascension, or higher consciousness a consumer item that can be easily purchased.
People that generally are not equipped with strong discernment and a cultivated b.s. meter, tend to give away their power to an outside influence, such as a guru type, group consciousness or a spiritual consumerism movement marketing themselves as a spiritual authority.
Retreats and wellness hotels are a full-fledged profit-making industry now and they’re more about creating a space to escape than going deeper into your psyche to meet your true self.
True wisdom is getting lost in the process of glamorisation be it with yoga, meditation, tarot, crystals and wellness retreats.
Any sort of co-dependency to a book, speaker, or a teacher is rewiring your brain for an addiction in a way no different than addiction to drugs.

For example, The new age culture is using crystals as a clutch while reinforcing the belief that all things good exist outside of you and not within you.
People that are materialistic and externally motivated tend to equate their value, worth and esteem on their accumulated wealth, status and possessions.
Yet, the same pitfall is common under the label of spirituality or higher consciousness, a breed of spiritual consumerism that is marketed as enlightenment to gain a marketed level of false spiritual status.
The wellness culture creates a belief that enlightenment can be achieved through instant gratification and by skimming on the surface of life, while ignoring the deeper inner emotional work that leads to personal accountability and greater integrity.
I encountered this during my awakening and realised that I was “Spiritual Bypassing”. Rather than working through hard emotions and confronting unresolved issues, I would simply dismiss them with explanantions such as, “Everything happens for a reason” or “It’s a blessing in disguse”, “Don’t worry, it will work out, just be positive” or “The universe has my back” It’s like band-aiding a wound that needs to be stitched.
So are you confiding in spiritual bypassing while indulging in spiritual consumerism?
Spiritual bypassing is generally an ego defense mechanism.
Why do we do this?
To protect ourselves from being mentally or emotionally triggered. As a result, we deny the truth.
So the next time you come across a spiritual marketing scheme, someone marketing themselves as a spiritual authority or selling you a wellness retreat that will do x y and z, ask yourself if there is deeper emotional work that you need to do before handing over your credit card and your power.
Your mental health is at stake….
